The Cure’s first Top 40 hit in the USA; eleventh in the UK. (OK, some of 80RP’s countrymen were a little behind the curve.) The beautiful woman in white dancing with Robert Smith is Mary Poole, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 24 years. The song is about a romantic moment with her at the seashore. Tim Pope was pretty much The Cure’s House Video Director. He never featured a woman in any other Cure video.

“The Walk” was a pre-Top Forty commercial breakthrough for the Cure and an MTV favorite. The same year it was released, Robert Smith recorded and toured with Siouxsie & the Banshees.
